This is one of the most traditional and typical musical instrument found mainly in the center of the island.
Historically, it might have come from the connection of the Malagasy ancestor with south asian countries (Vietnam, Phillipines, Indonesia). The name Valiha means musical instrument (from the sanskrit vadya).
Originally, this instrument was played only at mystical and religious ceremonies, because it represents peace.
